OMDE 604: The Management of Distance Education 2: Leadership in Distance Education
|
| |
The Management of Distance Education - Leadership proved to be yet another essential course for me as a practitioner. It also proved to demonstrate many, many flaws in the system in which I was working. The vital necessity of teamwork and team planning was made very clear. Faculty and staff support from administration and the beginnings of student support were also validated by my real life experiences. I must admit to getting into some sticky situation by bringing what information I was learning at UMUC to the table. Higher education change moves at a snail's pace and is not often accompanied by ego deflation. The fact that there was never a formal, written program plan (or any plan), support and compensation for faculty, appropriate technology use and student services became glaring as I progressed through this and other courses.
